For the past month, we’ve been running a poll on where NPUG should choose it’s new home. During that time, two locations have been running neck-and-neck: Green Hills Branch Library and the Edmondson Pike Branch Library. Despite having 66 votes, it looks like the decision has been taken out of our hands for the most part and we have chosen the Edmondson Pike Branch Library as our meeting location for the next three months (January, February, March).
Why Not Downtown
Upon further investigation, the Main Library (Downtown) was simply too expensive for us to meet there. To secure a small room would cost $75 per month and would not accommodate the entire group. That meant that we would have to rent the larger rooms and that would cost even MORE money. We’re a volunteer group, so we simply don’t have the funds for a meeting location with costs this high.
Why Not Green Hills?
At the start of the poll, it was looking like Green Hills Branch Library was going to be the clear winner. As time progressed, it became a near tie between Green Hills and Edmondson Pike, but the NPUG Leadership Council did it’s due diligence and went through all the steps to hold the meeting at both locations. We were approved for both, but when we went to scheduling, we ran into a snag. The Green Hills Branch was already booked through April, 2006.
So Edmondson Pike It Is!
Left with no other alternative, we’ve booked the Edmondson Pike Branch Library for the next three months. Will this be NPUG’s permanent home? Maybe. If Edmondson is a good fit, and we won’t know this of course until we actually meet there, then we make make it our permanent home. At the same time, we’re going to keep tabs on the Green Hills Branch to see if future meetings can be held there as well. Right now the space is pretty well booked in advance and we can’t have a permanent home where our meetings there are hit-or-miss.
We know that this location makes for a longer drive for those of you living North of Nashville. We wish that there was a more central location for us to meet, but at this time our hands appear tied. The good news is that in April we’re looking at having our first “NPUG On The Road” meeting, and we’re looking at the Goodletsville Branch Library for the April meeting. We’ll post more information as it becomes available.
So you can mark your calendars, for the next three months, we’ll be meeting at the Edmondson Branch Library and we look forward to seeing you there!
