Meeting Summary
We are a Palm OS user group, but the Apple iPhone is clearly a much hyped mobile device and we would be remiss if we didn’t give our users the 411 on this new mobile gem. I didn’t stand in line to get one, but I wasn’t far behind.
After playing with it for a solid week, I plan on giving a brief summary of the device and will of course pass it around so that everyone has a chance to see what all the fuss is about.
It’s a cool device, but does it supplant Palm OS?
For some folks e-mail is a fun way to interact with friends and family. For others it can be a nightmare of overwhelming floods of junk e-mail. Whichever camp you fall into, this month’s meeting will look at everything there is to do with e-mail and how you can make it a more efficient aspect of your digital life.
We’ll start focusing on the desktop and all the various ways in which you can manage your e-mail. POP3, IMAP, filtering, eliminating SPAM, security, you name it we’ll cover it. Oh and if any of those terms seem foreign to you, don’t worry, we’ll clarify everything as we take things step-by-step.
Once you have a clear understanding of your e-mail, the next obvious step is to make your e-mail mobile so that you can access it from anywhere. We’ll discuss what options there are for Palm OS, the best e-mail apps on the market today and show you just how easy it is to manage your mail.

1. Welcome & Announcements
After welcoming everyone to the meeting, we give a quick update on what’s new with the user group. This include membership, web site updates, where our geocache bug tracker is, etc.
2. What’s Happening In Palm OS?
Each month we cover everything that’s happened over the past month with Palm OS. We discuss the handhelds, new cool software and what to look for in the future.
3. What’s On Your Palm?
Our very own Fred Heumann asks the question, “What’s On Your Palm?” and shares what are some of the latest, best and sometimes unusual programs for your Palm.
4. Apple iPhone Demo
The good, the bad and the pretty. The Apple iPhone is one of the most successful consumer electronics launches in history, but with all the hype it’s hard to tell wether this device is all that it’s cracked up to be. Well, with a full week of hands on experience, Michael will demo the device and pass it around for everyone to try.
It is a nice device, but it’s not for everyone. There are plenty of “deal breakers” that may make you think twice about buying one, but like any digital solution, it all boils down to what’s right for you.

5. E-mail Basics
There are a ton of options and technologies when it comes to managing your e-mail, so it’s important to distinguish what the differences are. What better way than to start with the basics? POP, IMAP, SMTP, Webmail, we’ll explain it all.
6. How To Combat SPAM
If you have an e-mail address then SPAM is no stranger. There are a lot of tips of how to prevent SPAM when you first get an e-mail address, but is it too late if your e-mail address isn’t new? Of course not! We’ll cover all the different ways that you can nearly eliminate SPAM all together from your inbox.
7. Making Your E-mail Mobile
Now that your e-mail is all straight and SPAM free, the final hurdle is to make it mobile! We’ll cover the various options of getting e-mail on your Palm OS device and what software is the best for your needs.
8. Handy E-mail Tips
Time permitting, we’ll share a few handy tips about e-mail in general. Topics such as archiving, keeping your inbox empty and the proper way to reply to an e-mail are just a few examples. We won’t go into great detail, but share a lot of resources for further review.

For one-hour following the end of the meeting, Palm OS experts will be on hand to address any specific questions you may have, or troubleshoot any technical support issues. It’s one-on-one time where you can get the answers to just about any Palm OS issue.
