With the start of the New Year comes the thoughts of turning over a new leaf. There’s something about a new year that makes us all want to do better than we did the previous year. Everyone has their own unique resolutions, but invariably most people have “go on a diet” somewhere on their list and NPUG is here to help!
Just as there different diets to choose from, there is plenty Palm OS applications to go along with them. This month, we’ll be looking at some of the more popular applications that pair well with some of the more popular diets, such as South Beach, Weight Watchers, and Atkins. We’ll cover some of the core features of each diet, but more importantly, we’ll walk you through the programs that can help you STAY on your diet.
So if you’ve had one too many helpings this holiday season, or for that matter, one too many Krispy Kreme doughnuts at our meetings, then you won’t want to miss our first get together of 2006. We will help you discover ways to take off the extra unwanted pounds and use your Palm OS device to assist you.

4. Getting Healthy With Weight Watchers
Weight Watchers is one of the more popular diet programs on the market. It’s been around for over 40 years and it’s helped millions to reach their goal weight. Fellow NPUG member Fred Heumann can attest to it’s success and he’ll walk us through two pieces of software that can help you with this diet plan: Weight Watchers On-the-Go and WW Journal.
5. Getting Healthy With South Beach
The South Beach Diet, another popular diet program came into fashion a few years ago and has proven to be a successful program for losing weight. One of the features of the diet is that you don’t have to count points, or calories; yet there are a lot of recipes and that’s where your Palm OS device comes in. Michael Ashby will walk us through two programs: 1. PDACookbook Plus and 2. The South Beach Diet OnHand. In addition, Michael already has ALL the recipes from the book typed up for your Palm. We’ll have a beamable version for everyone, so even if you don’t use PDACookbook, you can still view the recipes!
6. Getting Healthy With BalanceLog
If following a specific diet program feels too much like following a fad, then BalanceLog may be just the ticket for you. Balance Log uses scientific measurements to examine changes you need to make in your diet and exercise program. Based on your unique Metabolic Fingerprint, occupation and lifestyle factors, diet preference, and exercise, BalanceLog personalizes your daily calorie budget to reach your goals. Michael Ashby will walk us through the key aspects of the software and how it works in your daily life.
7. Other Handy Health Software
There are a lot of diet and health tools out there and we certainly can’t cover them all in one meeting. So we’ll have a list of other software that you might find helpful in your quest to lose your holiday weight, or even get in shape for your next marathon.
